Colombo 5 Abstract 6 The suspension flow of quartz silt (geometric mean grain size of 4.15 microns), in unfavourable 7 conditions for the deposition, originates the development of different bed morphologies. Particles 8 deposit over a plane, non-erodible surface and develop well-defined barchan ripples, barchanoids 9 and plane beds in flume experiments. Bed-load transport of quartz silt by bedform migration is 10 several orders of magnitude smaller than the suspended transport. The final bed morphology is 11 controlled by the suspended sediment concentration and the running time of the experiment. The 12 average dimensions of the bedforms after one-day experiments are 4.93 cm wide, 10.33 cm long 13 and 0.45 cm high. Cohesive plane beds appear after two and three-days experiments with very 14 high sediment concentration (≥ 22.5 kg/m). Viscous effects are deemed relevant for the formation 15 of the beds. Subaqueous eruption-fed density currents and their deposits
Density currents fed directly from subaqueous eruptions can be divided conceptually into three groups based on modes of fragmentation and transport: (I) explosive fragmentation, with deposition from a gas-supported current; (II) explosive fragmentation, with deposition from a water-supported current; (III) fragmentation of flowing lava, with deposition from a water-supported current (Fig. 1). متن کاملEarly Diagenetic Silica Deposition in Algal Cysts and Spores: a Source of Sand in Black Shales
Devonian black shales that were deposited on the North American craton contain abundant Tasmanites cysts. Although these are typically flattened because of compaction, a small proportion of cysts is filled with diagenetic silica. The latter are spherical to ellipsoidal (0.1-0.5mm), and filled with chalcedony, microand megaquartz, and with single quartz crystals. Chalcedonic cyst fillings are pr...

In order to determine hydrocarbon contamination of drinking water in the Southern Italian region of Basilicata and to identify its source, we sampled water and subaqueous surface sediments from Lake Pertusillo, a fresh-water, highly dynamic, artificial reservoir located entirely within the largest oil field in Italy (Val d'Agri, Basilicata). Monitoring by the Basilicata Agency for Environmental...
